CD: Christmas Peace
Genre: Christmas
Label: Independent
THE REVIEW by CAROL SWANSON:
That angelic face! On the cover of Christmas Peace, Solveig (Solveig Leithaug) smiles with innocence and beauty, radiating calm and grace. She embodies Christmas Peace, both visually and musically.
Her voice is an amazing gift. This Norwegian singer is a Dove Award-winning Christian artist who has one of the purest, cleanest voices I have ever heard. No vibrato; Solveig's vocal instrument is all silken gold. So beautiful! And that is the reason why her Christmas Peace is an outstanding holiday release.
This is a low-key affair; if you are looking for high-powered holiday hijinx, look elsewhere. The offering opens with a lovely Norwegian song, Wondrous Invisible Pilgrimage. The album blends familiar carols with Norwegian gems, and the mix is comfortable and uplifting.
Solveig's jazzy treatment of Silent Night, complete with bongos, is sung in German, Norwegian, and English; this is my favorite track. I especially enjoyed Solveig's freestyle bars in the second half. Sweet! Her Tell Me the Story of Jesus has a country vibe, and the syncopated I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day is a kick.
Christmas Peace closes with a warm and wonderful rendition of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, complete with a cool clarinet solo. If the rest of my holiday listening is even half as good as Solveig's fine release, my Christmas will be merry indeed! Excellent!

For more than 20 years, Dove Award-winning recording artist Solveig Leithaug (Sol-vey Light-houg) Henderson has won audiences worldwide with her soothing voice, remarkable guitar playing and songwriting talents... An original member of the Oslo Gospel Choir, (with over one million sold CDs,) she's been a staple on the Scandinavian gospel scene and performed throughout Europe and the USA since her late teens. In 1984, at the tender age of 18, she was awarded as "Artist of the Year", by the music magazine "Treff", and at 20, Solveig received the Dove Award as "International Artist of the Year" by the Gospel Music Association in Nashville, TN. She was recently the recipient of the 2008 Angel Award, and the 2008 Angel Award for her music video featuring the CD's opening cut, "All the Way to Heaven", produced by Dan & Raven Rubottom with Epiphany Creative. Her first Christmas CD,(done as two releases in Norwegian and English) was produced by Steve Hindalong (Sixpense None the Richer, Jeremy Camp, The Choir, City on a Hill- Worship Series). The CD features a collection of 12 of today's most loved Christmas carols. Jim Chaffee with Chaffee Management Group is the Executive Producer and A & R for these productions...
From being a guest artist at official parliament functions, to doing worship services from prisons to jazz cafés, cathedrals and arenas, Solveig seeks to make music that brings peace, inspires and uplifts. An ordained minister since 1994, she has contributed commentary to Thomas Nelsons "Women of Destiny Bible". She was featured on Bill Gaither's Homecoming DVD "How Great Thou Art" taped at the Grand Ole Opry, and has performed on numerous Homecoming concerts since 2005, as well as lead worship for Billy Graham's daughter Anne Graham Lotz' "Just Give Me Jesus". Solveig has released six solo projects in English, and seven in her native Norwegian, in addition to three bestselling. Besides her two "home lands"; Norway and the USA, she has performed in nations such as Albania, South Africa, Malaysia, Brazil, Germany, Poland, Holland, Monaco, Finland, Austria, The United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Denmark and Switzerland. Solveig, an island girl at heart, grew up on Norway's west coast, Frekhaug, Norway. She serves as president for Heart Strings Int'l, a non profit ministry, formerly known as Soldiers for Jesus. Solveig counts it her greatest joy to be the mother of David Levi, Kari Julianna and John Markus. They make their home in the beautiful city of Colorado Springs, CO.
